Let the Summer Begin (Part 2)

i consider today the last day of my summer classes. we had our stat exam earlier today and i must say that the day started with a really bad omen. my mom comes into my room at 7:17 AM to ask me why on earth i haven't gotten up yet. she tells (more of yells, actually) me that she came by at 7 to wake me up and yet i'm still in bed. i check my phone and strangely enough, the alarm is turned off. in my confused state, i only came to one conclusion. i was sleep talking and sleep turn-off-my-phone-ing. i seriously cannot remember ever talking to my mom before getting up at 7:17. nor do i remember peering at phone long enough to turn off the snooze function. these highly disturbing matters were pushed to the back of my mind as i went about getting ready to go to school.

the trip to UP was uneventful. i get to the stat auditorium and quickly scan the room for a familiar face. my gaze locks on arisa and i head on over to the seat in front of her. i exchange nervous smiles with her and her friend. i survey my neighbors and find them scanning their notebooks. i think to myself then how natural it would be for me to bring out my own notebook and find things to cram in my head. although at that point, i doubt anything i read managed to mean anything more than the mechanical action of my eyes looking at words and formulas. my neighbors put away their notebooks and so i put mine away too and swivel to face arisa for some good-natured small talk. not long after, sir daquis arrives to hand out the exams.

i can say no more about the exam except that i was once again attacked by a runny nose. i do not know if this is a regular thing whenever i have to take exams in air-conditioned rooms but based on recent events, it seems to be a regular thing. this brings me back to my reviewmate at AHEAD who couldn't stop sniffling all throughout the mock exams. i am sorry to conclude that we may have the same condition. though i maintain that he's infinitely worse off than myself. i still had lots of items blank by the time sir announced that we only had five minutes left. so i did what any rational person would do and started guessing the hell out of those particular numbers. i finished with three minutes to spare.

after the exam, i hung around the stat building to join whatever janelle, bea, mikmik, bev, and ryan were up to. lunch was in order. it took us quite a bit of time to decide where we were gonna eat but ended up going to katipunan to try gravy fix which will be a new experience for all of us. the food was really good, really nakakabusog and at a reasonable price. i highly recommend it. though the mixed veggies left a lot to be desired. i got the mushroom duet gravy and couldn't resist dipping my spoon to get the mushroom bits because i really do enjoy mushrooms. they're my favorite vegetable. or is it fungus?

stomachs satisfied, we went to national bookstore to look at notebooks. janelle and bea were really excited about the prospect of buying notebooks for the next semester. this is one of the reasons why i like UP. i'd be hard-pressed to find people who look forward to getting really cool notebooks to write in for school elsewhere. i guess i need to learn to love my school supplies and maybe that love will be big enough for me to love what i use them for as well.

we finally head back to UP to accompany mik and bea as they get their stat finals grade. their prof agreed to let me and bev join them as they checked their paper and we got to see how many mistakes we accumulated. by the end of it, i counted about 10 mistakes and there are sure to be more. at this rate, i'm looking at (best case scenario) somewhere between 60-70%. i really hope i don't get anything lower than a 2 in stat because i did genuinely enjoy the subject and found it to be useful unlike math 17 and 100.

there's nothing left to do but to go our separate ways and head to our own separate homes. let summer vacation begin. let it begin for real.
